My Grandma died this week...why I haven't been blogging. I am going to miss her so much. Here's a picture of her with my parents, brothers, sisters, and my family:

Here's my tribute to her (that's me in the front next to her and holding my daughter on my lap):

1. She could make any plant grow.
2. Her favorite thing I could do for her was to bring her jars of home canned grape juice.
3. She was a little paranoid, but in a funny way. I remember my brother telling me that she thought her neighbors were stealing her water because their sprinklers came on the same time as hers. She said she had proof and my brother told her to go get it and he would call the police right away. I don't think she reacted very well to that.
4. The thing I remember her saying the most was "For hell's sake!"
5. She could only take so much of the great grandkids but always had old ribbon candy to feed them.
6. On her very worst of days, a baby could make her smile.
7. When she was at her funniest, you would laugh so hard you cried and probably peed your pants too.
8. If you could take her picture, you were fortunate because she did not like having her picture taken. Here's a picture I found, taken at her house of my uncle and aunt and a few cousins and there's my granny hiding her face!

9. I inherited her coffee stained organ a few years ago and it's a prized possession of mine.
10. She would have you go to get her a Kentucky fried chicken meal and give you a dozen directions about how it needed to look like the meal on the poster outside the chicken joint and it was your duty to let the cashier know she wouldn't pay for it if it didn't.
11. She probably owned 100 boxes of fabric that she had bought over the years.
12. No one was allowed to go in her basement or most of the rooms in her house for that matter because it was full of her "precious things" that she had collected for years and stacked to the ceiling.
13. She was an expert seamstress and knitter.
14. Her house smelled like grandma's house.
15. She loved the scriptures.
16. She loved thrift stores and garage sales and her wedding present to me was a desk she got at a thrift store for $15.
17. When my cousin and I visited her as teenagers, she rented horror movies for us and let us wear her bright red lipstick.
18. She loved the Utah Jazz and if you called her when she was watching a game on TV, she'd tell you she couldn't talk and probably hang up!
19. I have her hands...amazing how genetics works.
20. She may have been 88 years old but she was more proficient on the computer than most younger people. I loved getting emails from her.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It was a wonderful tribute. I think the KFC one was my favorite. It reminded me of my own grandmother who I lost years ago.

Dear Andrea,
I read your post about losing your Grandma and am sorry for your loss. I love your list of what you remember about her. It's wonderful and honest - not full of flowery, only the angelic stuff. You remember her as a real person. I hope many more memories are brought up as you all reminisce about her and your list grows even longer.
God bless you. Hugs. JulieBee

I am so sorry for your loss. When someone is part of your whole life, it is hard when they leave you behind. My grandmother turned 90 in April, then her boyfriend of 20 years died within a month (She had already outlived 5 husbands before him) and in less than a month she fell and broke her hip. She had an operation and now a walker, but she can't remember that she needs to use it, so it is full time care now. Her home is full of stuff I wish I knew what it meant. She was a treasure to me and I can tell your Grandmom was a treasure to you and she was lucky to have someone who loved her so much. Hugs and Thanks for all of your wonderful templates. We homeschool and this will be really neat for my daughter too. I have just started catching up, so I hope I can finish before you delete them.
Good luck with handling all the treasures in her home. I am overwhelmed and having trouble finding the pearls (photos, writing) among the stuff.
Best Wishes, Tasha

Andrea please disregard the comment about keeping your templates available, I got confused with something else. I know that you always leave yours up a little while and move on. I am using google reader and I sorted it a new way and combined with a migraine starting I wasn't thinking quite right. You have always made lovely templates. Thank you for all that you have shared with me. I was visiting a blog that had thematic geographic templates ie cities, states and that was what that reference was about. Hugs and Best Wishes,
Tasha

So sorry to hear about your grandmother, but oh the joy of knowing such a woman is a legacy to cherish. Love your ode to her in all its splendor. You are richer indeed for having such a strong and faithful woman in your love. She will be missed, but her memories will linger on and on. (So sorry to be so late, but I was recently discharged again from the hospital and could not type because of the weakness.) My prayers are with you and yours continuously. Leavin LUV! XOXOXO

Andrea,

I am sad for you. I lost both of my Grandparents, 54 days apart this winter. They were married 63 years and just didn't want to be apart...is the way I tell it. You are blessed to have had her for so long. I hope you know you will see her again.

I am so sorry for your loss. That must be so hard. I was reading your list about what you remember about her and it touched me so much. You have got to do a page with these just for yourself , if not you might forget some of these.

I have lost all my grandparents while I was very young and I wish I could remember these types of things.

You are very fortunate to have gotten to know her and I know that makes it harder when you love someone like that. I am so sorry and I hope your grief will not burden you too much. Just remember what you can and journal as much as possible. Good luck hun. You are in my prayers.

My Little Ironies

  • I just had to tell my daughter that there was little probability that she could do eighty chores in two hours and 10 minutes to earn a giant lot of pet shops on Ebay that she wants to earn before the auction closes. That's at two chores per dollar. :)
  • We are helping my father sell an old vehicle and what do we find in the glove box...an unused 12 guage shotgun shell...that's my Dad!!
  • How does a three year old end up at church with no underwear on, especially when you dressed him and you know he had underwear on at one point during the morning?
  • The root of all toilet clogging evil is apparently a ball point pen and it's nearly impossible to dislodge one of those from the inside of a toilet.
  • You know you have to do some serious laundry when you actually consider wearing your 11 year old daughter's Hannah Montana shirt.
  • My 6 year old daughter got a comb stuck in her hair and we had to cut the comb into little bits to get it out of her hair.
  • My kids keep breaking the toilet seats! I guess I need a bulk package of those too!
  • Chocolate chips are not a food group.
  • My toilet seat says "Hailee" on it!
  • If there's work to be done, all of the kids need to use the bathroom or get a drink.
  • All two-year-olds think the baby swing is for them!
  • When you have 6 kids, carpet is your enemy!
  • You know you have a large family when your grocery receipt is 4 feet long.
  • The toilet is clogged and my husband found a plastic easter egg in the pipe.
  • My daughter just asked me if she can put chocolate sprinkles on here melted cheese sandwich (really???)
  • I burned up another hard drive on my PC! Can I buy a bulk package of those too?
  • Well actually, my sand pile is full of socks and silverware!
  • My sand pile is full of socks!
  • The key to my treadmill is missing again...can I just purchase a bulk package of them???
  • I fixed my daughter's glasses with JB Weld!
  • I have a pile of sand on my leather couch.
  • My daughter lost her glasses in the snow on the way home from school in January. Someone found them in March and turned them into the school office! Amazingly enough, the school remembered we lost them in January. Wow!
  • Just when I think he knows better, my 10 year old son plugs the bathroom sink and the emergency drain in the sink basin to soak his grow creature, turns on the water, and forgets about it until we notice water flooding out from under the bathroom door! And yes, he locked the door so no one would bother the grow creature!!
  • It's time for another worn out pair of the hubby's pants to disappear! Aren't kids suppose to be the only ones who are attached to clothing?
  • My 4 year old says she needs "peace and quite"!!!!!
  • My Husband says there's a perfectly good reason for the leatherman being in my dish drainer.
  • I have a leatherman (fancy pocket knife) in my dish drainer. I don't know why.
  • My kids are storing a tumble weed in my garage for the winter!
  • My 10 year old son informed me that people have only discovered about half of the world's caves (thank you BBC and planet earth!)
  • My baby's car seat is full of finely crushed graham crackers (?? Little babies don't eat graham crackers)!
  • My husband's shoes are filled with Mr. Potato Head parts!
  • My two year old thinks the new baby swing is for him! He can even climb in by himself and work all the controls. Boy, does he have a rude awakening coming!!
  • I have a giant mud hole in my back yard.
  • My vacuum is fully of plastic easter grass.
  • My kids are too full to finish their dinner, but they have plenty of room left for cake!
  • I have a giant laundry basket full of socks, and we can't find a single match!
  • Miscellaneous items found while cleaning out my kids' toy box include a flashlight, rocks (no suprise), a sea shell (we don't live by the sea), a drill bit, a stapler, and some tree bark!
  • My daughter's medical bills added up to about $18,000, but we got a free sippy cup and a ball signed by the Utah JAZZ Dancers!
  • I put safety locks on the tops of my outside doors to keep my three year old from escaping and she figured out how to open them with a broom in approximately five minutes.
  • I bought the EXPENSIVE vacuum this time only to find that my 3-year-old took it apart with a screwdriver!
  • I haven't showered for 3 days, but my house is clean!
  • I have 38 winter gloves of various sizes in my coat closet and none of them match.
  • We're out of peanut butter because my husband used the rest to catch a mouse in our garage!
  • Yes, my son won 1st place in the science fair at school, but he didn't turn in half of his assignments this term?
  • No matter how many toys my toddler got for Christmas, I still find him in the middle of my kitchen floor sitting in my crock pot!
